We are heading back to the 2017/18 season for this week’s Throwback Thursday feature when Fleetwood Town beat Northampton Town 2-0 at Highbury Stadium.

Kyle Dempsey finished off a flowing move after 18 minutes, with Cian Bolger scoring a scrappy second from a corner late on. Northampton asked a few questions, but Town were comfortable in the end and deserved the three points.

With John Sheridan at the helm, the Cods pushed on to their first win in a while after two team goals spurred them to victory. Kyle Dempsey scored the opener 18 minutes in after finishing off a flowing move before Cian Bolger doubled the side’s lead by netting a scrappy second from a corner late on.

This was the game that Town put time aside to share tributes for the late Life Vice-President Ted Lowery, who sadly passed away on the Friday after a short illness. Ted was a much-loved figure around the club and will be sadly missed by all those whose lives he touched. Nathan Pond, alongside Chairman Andy Pilley, laid a wreath in his honour just before kick-off.

Town XI: Cairns (GK), Coyle, Eastham, Pond (C), Dempsey, McAleny (Grant 66’), Bolger, Diagouraga, Madden (Hiwula 81’), Hunter, Sowerby (Glendon 88’).
