Fixture: Wigan Athletic v Fleetwood Town
Competition: Sky Bet League One
Date: Tuesday 1 March 2022
Kick-off: 19:45
Venue: DW Stadium, Loire Drive, Robin Park, Wigan, WN5 0UZ
FLEETWOOD TOWN
Stephen Crainey’s side head to Greater Manchester on the back of a six-goal thriller at Fratton Park from the weekend, which saw Paddy Lane rifle in a goal of the season contender just before the half-time break.
Four goals in the first half meant it was an action-packed first 45, however, it was backs to the wall for Fleetwood as the backline was broken twice in the second half the last in stoppage time meant the points were shared.
The Cods had the two games before that called off because of abnormal weather conditions and stadium damage against Lincoln City and Sheffield Wednesday and they lost out to Cheltenham Town in another recent outing, with the game ending in a 2-0 loss.
WIGAN ATHLETIC
The Latics are flying high in Sky Bet League One at the moment as they currently sit in second place, only behind Rotherham United – a team which Fleetwood have beaten twice this season.
Apart from their last outing, which was a 3-0 loss to fellow promotion-candidates Sunderland, Wigan have been in good form as they have managed to beat Charlton Athletic, Crewe Alexandra, and Wycombe Wanderers in their last five games.
In that win over the Chairboys, it was a late flurry of goals that sealed the win as Tom Naylor cancelled our Sulley Kaikai’s opener before Callum Lang scored a four-minute brace ten minutes from time to secure the points on the night.

PRE-MATCH QUOTES: STEPHEN CRAINEY
Head Coach Stephen Crainey spoke to the media after his side drew 3-3 away at Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Saturday afternoon. Here is what he had to say in his interview:
“We’re disappointed, it’s a tough place to come here at Fratton Park but I thought in the first half we were outstanding with three brilliant goals, their penalty was a turning point, and it changed the complexity of the game.
“I am pleased with the group to come to a sold-out stadium and to give an effort of themselves, we will get a new game plan for Tuesday and will recharge our batteries so we can learn from it and go again, we showed good energy in the first half.
“We’re really looking forward to our games ahead, there isn’t much in League One, I say this in all my interviews if we go into games the way we know we can carry momentum. We have Wigan on Tuesday who are flying but we’re a really good side and we do show that and there’s no reason why we can’t get anything out of the game.”
