Fleetwood Town are delighted to confirm the signing of forward Callum Morton on a three-year deal from Sky Bet Championship side West Bromwich Albion.

Morton – who was on loan with the Cods at the start of the 2021/22 season – rejoins the side after spending time on loan at Championship side Peterborough United.

The 22-year-old was a fans’ favourite whilst playing at Highbury last year as he scored seven goals in all competitions including a hat-trick against Leicester City in the Papa John’s Trophy, making him one of the top scorers from the last campaign.

Before his time at Fleetwood, he reached the League One play-off final with Lincoln City and fired in eight goals in just twelve appearances for Northampton Town in their League Two play-off winning campaign back in 2020.

Chairman Andy Pilley said on the signing: “We are delighted to have Callum back in the building; he made a great impression on the squad and fans when he was last here so it’s brilliant that he’s ours to keep. We pushed the boat out to get him back and had to fight off multiple clubs to do so as he was one of the key targets we wanted to focus on this window. I’d like to place on record our thanks to West Bromwich Albion for their assistance in making the deal happen.

“The manager met him a couple of weeks ago and it’s progressed from there. We’ve nailed him down to a long-term deal, which is great for the club, as we feel he is a player we can see developing under Scott’s leadership. Hopefully, he will be an influential player in the squad for the upcoming season.”

Scott Brown, Head Coach, added: “Callum is a fantastic player who has impressed not only the staff here in the past but also the fans. The staff has stayed in touch with him, and we knew that he would be a key target for us to try and get back in the building. His pace will make him a great addition up at the top of the park, as well as his awareness, and we know he’s a top player to bring to the club.

“He wants to be here, and we wanted him, so it worked out perfectly. It’s exciting times for me, Steven [Whittaker], and Callum so we just need to make sure that we all get a good pre-season under our belts and make the most of his time here. I’ve had a fantastic opportunity to meet him today and hopefully, this is the start of a good relationship going forwards.”

Welcome back, Callum!
