Fleetwood Town finished pre-season off with a 2-1 victory against National League side FC Halifax Town on Tuesday afternoon at Poolfoot Farm.

It was a well fought victory for the Cod Army as they came from behind the claim the win over the Yorkshire club. A goal for the visitors early on was soon cancelled out by Joe Garner’s close-range header just before the half-time interval.

Town’s seventh summer signing, Promise Omochere bagged his first goal for the Club after joining from League of Ireland side, Bohemians, meaning Fleetwood end pre-season with three wins on the bounce.

Fleetwood started the game stronger out of the two sides with multiple chances falling to Omochere and J. Garner. The first chance fell for Town with Omochere down the left wing. The winger did fantastic to beat his man in a one-on- one situation but fired his shot narrowly over the crossbar.

Garner tried his luck from just inside the FC Halifax Town half, nearly catching the opposition goalkeeper out, however it just went over the bar – what a goal that would have been!

Despite Town’s dominance, it the visitors who found themselves on the scoresheet first. An excellent in swinging cross found the head of Halifax forward Mani Dieseruvwe - who glancing header beat Alex Cairns from two-yards out.

Five minutes before the break Fleetwood came close to finding the equalizer through Cian Hayes. The midfielder lined up the ball from just outside the penalty box and curled his shot wide of the top left corner.

With the half-time break fast approaching, Fleetwood’s centre-half Drew Baker picked out J. Garner from 45-yards, with the former Preston North End striker getting himself in a goal scoring opportunity to nod past Tom Scott.

The opening stages of the second half saw Town come out the traps fast and determined, with Omochere grabbing what was ultimately the winning goal five minutes from the restart.

After a corner was whipped into the penalty box from the left, goal scorer J. Garner found himself in acres of space to volley the ball back across goal, with Omochere waiting for the knockdown to scramble the ball over the line.

After Fleetwood’s second goal, head coach Scott Brown made a number of changes, seeing more of the senior players given a rest, with several Under-23s players getting valuable minutes on the pitch.

Town did enjoy majority of possession later in the match on the Fylde Coast, with Dylan Boyle and Barry Baggley dictating the play in the middle of the park.

There was plenty of encouragement for the new head coach and the fans who saw the game at the Club’s training complex, with eyes now fully focused on Fleetwood’s opening Sky Bet League One game against Port Vale – buy your away tickets and travel HERE!
