Fleetwood Town head coach Scott Brown has given us his thoughts after his side came out 2-1 winners over FC Halifax Town at Poolfoot Farm.

The Cod Army played their final pre-season fixture on Tuesday 26 July but had to come from behind to make it three wins from three before their league opener against Port Vale this upcoming weekend

Goals from Joe Garner and new signing Promise Omochere cancelled out Mani Dieseruvwe's opener on the Fylde Coast, and here's what Brown had his say after the full-time whistle:

On the game…

“I thought the lads did really well today, there were some outstanding performances from the players out there. I did speak to them beforehand and said if you want to be pushing on the first team door, this is what you have to do.

“The players delivered today. I know we went 1-0 down but it was sloppy but we managed to dig deep and score two goals. I do think we could have scored a few more this afternoon, which was unlucky but as I said, there were some really good performances.

“It was great for Promise [Omochere] and Joe Garner to get minutes in their legs. Joe had a couple of opportunities with his head today and was unlucky. He’s that physical presence that we need in the box, and he creates chances from absolutely nothing at times, so yes it was good for him to get on the scoresheet.”

On the team and taking on board messages…

“The main thing for me was that we managed to get through the 90 minutes with no injuries and good team performance.

“The lads are starting to take on board everything myself and the backroom staff are asking for in training, with their understanding of positioning, being secure behind the ball and also creating attacking opportunities to showcase their individual talents.

“Pre-season is huge for any Club, but the main thing was getting the fitness in the lads and also getting a good result with the performance. We just need to keep things moving whilst also looking ahead to Saturday, which is out first league match of the season and we want to go there and get three points!”

On the young lads…

“It was great seeing the young lads in action today. Dylan Boyle and Barry Baggley were outstanding in the middle of the park, they controlled the tempo and the speed of the game and then with two young centre-halves with Connor Teale and Drew Baker playing against a tall, strong, physical striker, and the young lads dealt with him well and as I said, they also got minutes in their legs.”
