FLEETWOOD TOWN

Fleetwood head into the game against the Shrews on the back of two consecutive home draws against high-flying Plymouth Argyle and Cambridge United respectively.

In the Cambridge clash, it was midfielder Wes Hoolahan who opened the scoring for the visitors directly from a corner but Paddy Lane’s curling effort from distance levelled things up for Fleetwood meaning the two sides share the spoils.

In the game before against Argyle, Stephen Crainey’s men played out a thrilling 3-3 draw which saw Luke Jephcott open the scoring. Paddy Lane levelled the game up soon after. Both Joe Edwards and Niall Ennis goals seemed to secure the result, but a late burst saw the points split one apiece.

SHREWSBURY TOWN

The Shrews go into the game with the same record over the last two games, as their league clashes against Gillingham and AFC Wimbledon have ended in a goalless draw and a one-all draw.

The game against Gillingham was against Salop in terms of stats, but they managed to do better in their away trip to Plough Lane as they came back from a goal down through a Daniel Udoh strike to start an unbeaten streak.

Even though they haven’t won any of their last five games, they still find themselves two places above Fleetwood in the table. Their last win was an impressive 1-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at home, when Matthew Pennington netted the only goal of the game on the stroke of half time.

PRE-MATCH QUOTES: STEPHEN CRAINEY

Head Coach Stephen Crainey spoke to the press on Thursday afternoon ahead of his side’s Sky Bet League One clash against Shrewsbury Town at the Montgomery Waters Meadow. Here is what he had to say in his interview:

“We’ve got our own style of play and we know how we like to play football, but we know that you have to mix it in League One o earn the right to get the ball down and play so we certainly have to do that. If we show our quality on the ball, we have the ability to get more goals on the day and potentially take home the three points.

“The home game sticks in the back of my throat a bit because that’s the one and only game we’ve not been at it since I’ve taken over as we lacked a bit of intensity on the day, but we got to the bottom of it when we debriefed the game the next day so hopefully, we can put that wrong right on Saturday. We know it’s going to be tough, as they are a real physical side, as they showed on Boxing Day. We will be looking to stand up to them and look to win the game.

“Every game is three points regardless of where they are. I think we are stronger after the players we brought in with Zak [Jules], Toto [Nsiala], Ellis Harrison, Kieran [O’Hara], Dan [Butterworth], and Josh Harrop - we’ve made some good additions to the group. They’ve made us more physical and technical so we’ve got a good mix in the team as we can play when we get time to, and we can also mix it as we’ve shown in recent games.”
