Fleetwood United will play their historic first competitive game in the UAE Third Division this Saturday.

The sister club of Fleetwood Town are owned by chairman Andy Pilley and are a brand-new team based out of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

The Dubai Cods will start their campaign on Saturday February 26 when they host Royal FC at Sports City, kick-off 17:00 local time (13:00 UK). The game is open to the general public for free and will take place on Grass Pitch 2.

Chairman Andy Pilley said it’s a hugely exciting time for the new club.

“We are really proud of what we are building in the UAE, and can’t wait for Fleetwood United’s first ever game on Saturday,” he said.

“The international expansion is something I’m very passionate about as we attempt to find new ways of making Fleetwood Town sustainable by developing the very best in young talent all around the world.

“This is just the start of our plans over in the UAE, and Dubai in particular, and we are incredibly exciting to see the team take to the field.

“The Cod Army has three results to look our for this weekend. Our South African side Western Cape Fleetwood are top of the third division and play against the team currently in second place. Fleetwood United play their first ever game in Dubai, and of course I’ll be down in Portsmouth as Fleetwood Town look for vital points in League One.

“These are incredibly exciting times."
