Fleetwood Town head coach Scott Brown spoke to the media ahead of Monday's Boxing Day clash against Sheffield Wednesday.

With no game for the Cod Army since their victory away at MK Dons earlier in month, Brown and his side are raring to go ahead of the Boxing Day clash at Highbury.

The gaffer has urged the fans to turn up in their numbers to make it a great occassion on the Fylde Coast.

Here's what Scott had to say in his pre-match press conference:

On the appointing of Jonathan Walters as Technical Director…

“It’s something that worked well with the club beforehand, and it’s going to help us going forward by setting standards and I know he’s here to look over us all and make sure we are doing our jobs, as well as be helpful to the group.

“He [Jonathan Walters] was a fantastic player and had a great career. His role will be between the two clubs of Fleetwood Town and Waterford FC and will help in making us more professional and by hopefully helping both teams push up the leagues.

“By playing at the highest levels, he has the contacts, and we will be needing to use him for sure. The club has ambition, and we want to try and get up the table and January is going to be huge for us.”

On having money to spend in January…

“The Chairman [Andy Pilley] has said we have £20 million to spend in the January window.

“On a serious note, for us it will be free transfers. We do have a bit of cash, but we will look to get in some players in and some loans as it’s important we keep strengthening in areas all across the pitch.

“We’ve brought in Phoenix [Patterson] and he’s been great since signing. We have watched him a lot due to the connection between Fleetwood and Waterford FC and we know he scores goals, creates chances, and wants to be direct by getting in the box.

“As a winger, he can scores goals and that’s hard to do but he has the desire to do just that and he’s a lovely kid. He’s a bit shy at the moment bit I am sure he will grow out of that and will slowly learn how we go about our business.

“It’s important he knows what we expect, and it’s important to get an understanding of how we play and also see how he can help us moving forward.”

On tempting those on the fence coming to watch Fleetwood…

“We want to be a possession-based side and we showed that at Ipswich a few weeks ago. We did struggle for the first 10 minutes of the game but then we grew into it and controlled the game. We had a lot of possession, and it makes me proud the lads playing that way.

“We create chances and when you bring on the likes of Cian Hayes and Joe Garner, you know they’re going to create chances and Joe had a great chance cleared off the line with his first touch, and Hayesy gets that bit of luck you need to grab the equaliser.

“There’s more to come. We are all learning and I have to say I am enjoying it. I think if you don’t enjoy your work, there’s no point turning up. I chat to the lads, tick all the boxes before training to give the lads the best opportunity on a Saturday afternoon.

“It’s about getting an understanding and with each game comes different challenges and for us when we play Sheffield Wednesday, we are looking forward to it with the crowd and it should be a good occasion with it also being Christmas time.”
