Fleetwood Town's Under-18s have reached the Fourth Round of this years FA Youth Cup after beating Bristol City 1-0 at the Robins High Performance Centre.

After a hard-fought contest, it was Pharrell Brown's 90th minute header that sealed the win, meaning Fleetwood will face Middlesborough in the Fourth Round in the New Year.

Both Fleetwood and Bristol City had chances throughout the 90 minutes, with the visitors having the better of the opening 15 minutes. Brown - who scored Town's winner - was a handful all night and created many opportunities for the Cod Army, with nothing coming of them in the early exchanges.

The Robins came out in the second half and it's fair to say they had the better of the chances. Town held on and had to make key tackles and goal line clearances, thanks to both Kayden Hughes and captain Will Johnson respectively.

Fleetwood's keeper Stephen McMullan made five impressive stops in the game, keeping the scoreline goalless as it entered the final minutes of the match.

Brown stepped up with extra-time luming, and with Dom Richmond stealing the ball on left hand side, he drove to the by-line and played in Brown, who nodded home at the near post to give Fleetwood the win and gain entry into Round Four.

Jack Higgins, Head of Academy at Fleetwood Town was delighted for the lads and had the following to say:

"I am really pleased for the lads. FA Youth Cup nights are always really special nights and it's another memory for the lads to look back upon once they've finished playing with our Under-18s.

"It was a proper Fleetwood Town performances. The lads dug in and were resiliant throughout and got what they deserved right at the very end. They worked hard and had so much desire to keep a clean sheet and to grab the win.

"The history of the FA Youth Cup is built on providing opportunities for young players, and for them to experience playing in stadiums across the U.K. We are looking forward to hosting Middlesbrough in the middle of January, as our players have earned the right to experience playing in front of a crowd - it will be a moment they will cherish forever."

Further details on the FA Youth Cup Fourth Round tie against Middlesbrough will be announced closer to the fixture. Pleasse stay tuned on all our Club social media channels so you don't miss it!
