Fleetwood Town’s Development Squad travelled to Northern Premier League Premier Division side Ashton United on Tuesday 2 August, and played out a 0-0 draw at Hurst Cross.

Stephen Crainey’s men had to weather the storm early on as United had two chances to take the lead. Forward Max Harrop thought he should have had a penalty after Dylan Boyle’s tackle just before Tom Warren had a great chance from close range, with Tom Donaghy there to save comfortably.

Town forward Max McMillan made Ashton’s goalkeeper Greg Hartley pull off a fine save. Will Russ and Sam Bird played a part in the build-up before the youngster effort was on target.

Harrop was in the thick of things as his effort through a crowd of players looked to be creeping in at the back post, but against Donaghy was there to keep the score at 0-0.

Right at the death, McMillan hit Akiel Raffie’s low driven cross over the bar from a promising position. A moment that would have seen Town claim the win on the road.

Starting XI: Donaghy (GK), Thiam, Leggett (Bird, 69’), Hoyle, Baker, Boyle, Baggley (Raffie, 25’), Thompson, Hayes (White, 69’), Russ (D. Edwards, 77’), McMillan.
