FLEETWOOD TOWN

Since the opening day defeat at Port Vale, Town have remained unbeaten in all competition. They picked up all three points in their first home league match of the season against Plymouth Argyle, with a win a few days later over Championship side Wigan Athletic in the Carabao Cup.

In Town’s last two matches, they have picked up two draws. The first being in the Lancashire Derby against Morecambe at the Mazuma Stadium. Danny Andrew’s late goal sealed a point on the road, with the latter being a goalless draw against Cheltenham at Highbury on Tuesday Night. Callum Morton, Shaun Rooney and Andrew all went close, but couldn’t quite get the ball over the line.

DERBY COUNTY

The Rams have had a steady start to their life in League One. They opened their league campaign with a 1-0 victory over Karl Robinson’s Oxford United. Summer signing Conor Hourihane scored ten-minutes from the end to seal the victory.

They lost 1-0 in their second encounter against Charlton on The Valley, and then bounced back with two back to back wins. The first being a 2-1 win in the Carabao Cup against Mansfield Town, then another 2-1 win over Barnsley at Pride Park.

On Tuesday night, just like their opponents this weekend, they played out a goalless draw away at Shrewsbury Town. They currently sit 7th in the league table after four matches played.

ONE CURRENT PLAYER WHO HAS PLAYED FOR BOTH CLUBS

Tom Barkhuizen played 15 times for Fleetwood Town whilst on loan from neighbours, Blackpool. He scored one goal during his time at Highbury, with that being the winner in the 2-1 win over Barnet on Saturday 29 September 2012.

Barkhuizen started off his career at Blackpool, however, was loaned out three times to Fleetwood, Hereford and Morecambe. He eventually made a permanent move to the Shrimps in May 2015, where he played 64 times for them, scoring 17 goals.

Lancashire side Preston North End came calling for the midfielder in January 2017. In a five-year spell at Deepdale, he played over 200 matches, scoring 38 times for the Lilywhites. He moved to Derby County in July 2022 on a free transfer, playing in all five games this campaign.

SCOTT BROWN ON DERBY COUNTY

“Derby are a huge club and they have an unbelievable following as well. We have watched a lot of videos of their games, and they play good football, and they have players who are comfortable on the ball.

“For us, it’s about how to go and press them and how we are going to squeeze them because our game plan in every game is to squeeze teams and Put pressure on them. It’s how we deal with them from goal-kicks, free-kicks, and corners and with their understanding of their game plan.

“With any big team that comes to Highbury, we need to show that we the quality to match them and that is with the intensity off the ball as well as quality on the ball. It’s when we have the ball, how can we play, how can we be expansive and how can we create chances and score goals.

“We have to believe that we can win the game. For me, you have to go into every game believing that you can win the game.”
