FLEETWOOD TOWN

Scott Brown and the lads have had a good start to the season having won two out of the opening four games in all competitions, as well as picking up a point after going behind in the Lancashire derby at the weekend against Morecambe.

Town did brilliantly to come back into the game against the Shrimpers after Arthur Gnahoua opened the scoring in the first half with his strike from the left as Danny Andrew showed his quality as he struck the ball into the top right corner of Morecambe’s goal with his weak foot.

In the game before that, the Cods beat Championship side Wigan Athletic in the First Round of the Carabao Cup, with Ged Garner’s first half header being enough to knock out the Latics. Fleetwood Town will now face Premier League side, Everton at Highbury in Round Two on Tuesday 23 August.

CHELTENHAM TOWN

The Robins haven’t started the 2022/23 campaign as they would have hoped as they are still in search of their first point of the season after four losses in a row, even though they won three of their last four-pre-season games ahead of their first competitive game against recently relegated, Peterborough United.

The three wins in pre-season - which came against Stafford Rangers, Birmingham City, and Northampton Town – showed promise ahead of the season start date with both Dan Nlundulu and Alfie May each bagging a couple of goals in these games.

In their last outing, they hosted Portsmouth at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium and fell to a 2-0 defeat after forward Colby Bishop netted a brace on the day, with a goal coming each side of the half. In the game before, it was a 7-0 loss at home to recently promoted, Exeter City.

SCOTT BROWN AFTER SATURDAY’S DERBY DRAW

Head coach Scott Brown spoke to the club after his side came back from behind to draw with Morecambe in this afternoon’s Lancashire Derby – here’s what he had to say:

“Our fans were exceptional again, coming down, dancing, and singing. They have supported us since we came in and we’d have liked to get an extra goal at the end to give them something back, but it wasn’t meant to be.

“We’ve just got to rest and recover as the lads have worked extremely hard. It’s been 30 degrees here and it not that often that it’s this hot, so fatigue kicked in for a lot of the lads and a few of them came over with cramp.

“They are strong though and we have a good squad, so we have the option to rotate a few players around for the next game. There are those who played against Wigan, which came off the bench this afternoon, and did extremely well so there will be chances for them to feature.”
