For this week’s throwback feature, we are looking back at a previous winner of our Goal of the Season award when Conor McAleny drove an injury-time winner in from range against Oxford United in the 2017/18 season.
The Cods picked up all three points in dramatic style away from home as McAleny scored a screamer from 30-yards in stoppage time to bring home the win. It was in the final minute of stoppage time that the forward received the ball on the left, took a touch, and smashed it into the net in style.
Bobby Grant had the best chances for Fleetwood in the game, but it was Oxford who were the stronger side in the second half and had threatened to score, but Alex Cairns produced outstanding saves to keep United at bay.
