Midfielder Harvey Macadam spoke to the press after scoring on his full league debut against Crewe Alexandra at the Mornflake Stadium.

It was a brilliant start for the young midfielder who joined the Cods in the summer of 2021 and was named in the starting line-up for the first time in red having found the back of the net after getting on the end of Harrison Biggins’ looped cross early on.

Here’s what Macadam had to say after the 3-1 win:

On scoring on his full debut…

“I’ve been working so hard for that for a very long time and I’m just buzzing. We worked that a lot in training and it paid off today. It’s just excitement, there’s nothing to be nervous about for me as we’re playing football every day, so I’m used to it.

“I had my mum, dad, brother, and sister watching today, so it was brilliant to score in front of them because they’ve supported me all the way. I checked my phone, and it was buzzing, everyone is happy for me. It was unreal; I couldn’t believe it when it went in - I was in dreamland.”

On playing for the first team…

“I got told by Crainzo [Stephen Crainey] at the start of the international break that I might be involved but he didn’t say I was going to be starting. I was just told to prepare right and on Thursday he named the team.

“It’s massive [playing with senior pros] who have been playing at this level for a very long time and I’m not used to it, but they’ve guided me, and I feel like part of a team. It improves me a lot being around these kinds of players as I can pick up tips from them.

“I’m not used to the big crowds, but I feel like I’ve dealt with it well today, I’m just looking forward to playing more and more games."

On the importance of the win…

“The win today is a massive confidence boost. We’ve been giving leads away and to see that win through is a massive boost.

“We need those wins; we’ve seen the players that have come on today. They’ve not been around recently because of injuries and they’re only going to help us in the last few games.

“I think now we’ve got that first win under our belt for a long time, it will kick us on really and I think we can win every game we’re involved in. I think we’ve got more than enough to stay up.”

On the fans…

“The fans were brilliant. As I saw when I scored, they were unreal all game, getting behind us and we’ll need them throughout the rest of the season.

“The fans really get you going I’m used to playing in front of only a few hundred so playing in front of three of four thousand is something I can get used to.”
