Head Coach Stephen Crainey spoke to the press after Saturday afternoon’s 3-1 win over Crewe Alexandra at the Mornflake Stadium.

Fleetwood took an early lead through Harvey Macadam but were pegged back by Chris Long just before the break. However, second-half goals from Anthony Pilkington and Ellis Harrison were enough for Town to take home the three points.

Here’s what Crainey had to say:

On the game…

“I thought it was a real solid performance from start to finish. We were disappointed with Crewe getting the goal just before halftime, but I thought the response in the second half was outstanding. It’s only one win, we will need to rest up now and get ready for Tuesday.

“It was a real collective [performance] today from the starting 11 and the subs that came on as well that impacted the game. It was a real collective effort that got us over the line today and I felt it was a thoroughly deserved three points as well.

“Harvey [Macadam] has been showing real good qualities in training and I trust him, that’s why I play him. I see what he gives every day, and I think his energy and legs from the midfield area is a real asset for us and is going to be moving forward.”

On the fans…

“I thought the turnout from the fans was outstanding today. To be honest with you, I wasn’t expecting as many so every credit to them.

“I thought the fans drove us forward and they played a massive part in getting the result. They’re going to be needed from now until the end of the season.

“They’ve been different class since the start of the season, to be honest with you. We need that to continue but we need to make sure we’re applying ourselves right on the pitch to get the backing of the fans and I’m sure we’ll do that.”

On players returning from injury…

“The more players I’ve got at my disposal, the better it’s going to be for not just me, but the whole club in general so I’ll pick a team on who we’re playing against and how I think we can win games of football.

“Pilks [Anthony Pilkington] and Ellis [Harrison] only trained yesterday so the minutes that they got today are going to do them the world of good from now until the end of the season. The quicker we can get them up to speed is only going to benefit the group.

“We’ve got loads of competition at the club now and loads of places so it’s healthy. We’ve got a long way to go, I know that. We’re going to enjoy today’s victory and prepare for Tuesday.”
