Head Coach Stephen Crainey spoke to the press after Fleetwood Town’s narrow loss to Accrington Stanley at Highbury on Saturday afternoon.

Town started out the game on the front foot having created multiple chances before Ellis Harrison put the side ahead with seconds to go before the half time break. Accrington came back in the second half, with Sean McConville and Michael Nottingham getting goals, which finished the game off.

Here’s what Crainey had to say:

On the game…

“It seems to be the same story of recent; you couldn’t make it up over the last few weeks to be honest with you, but the reality is we’ve lost the game.

“I thought a draw would have been a fair result; Accrington are a real physical side, they put you under a lot of pressure from set-pieces, long throw ins, and we knew that was coming. The first goal we just switch off and they get the goal at the back stick.

“Obviously Alex [Cairns] gets sent off in the game which is a bit disappointing and at that point I’m just hoping we can dig in and get a draw out of the game, but they got a corner and scored from it so I’m really disappointed not to get anything out of the game.”

On the performance…

"We had a couple of really good chances to kill the game off, similar to the Lincoln game midweek, but we've not took these chances. The pleasing factor is that we're creating these good chances, now we just need to start putting the ball in the back of the net and kill games off.

"When you don't score, it gives the other team the opportunity to get back into the game, and that's what has been happening recently, we just need to start putting them in. I thought we were battling well and really competing which I want them to do every single game and to then concede in injury time, I felt for the group.”

Ahead of the final five games…

"We'll dust ourselves down, we'll be fighting like mad until the end, I can guarantee that. I believe every game we go into; we can win. My thought process won't change, I am positive, I want the group to stay positive and that's the way we want to be.

"We can't keep making the same mistakes all the time, we need to rectify them. We need to implement the game plan that we start the game with."
