Head Coach Simon Grayson spoke to the media after seeing his side come back to secure a point in their 2-2 draw against Cambridge United at Abbey Stadium.

Town took the lead early on through a James Hill header, and even though goals from Adam May and Shilow Tracey saw the home side take the lead, Fleetwood came back to salvage a point late on as substitute Paddy Lane cut in from the left and struck home.

Here’s what the Gaffer had to say after the game:

On the game…

“It was a tough test for us and we knew that before the game because they’ve had some good results here. They’ve got a winning mentality, when you get promoted that can take you a long way.

“We started the game well, got the early goal, and looked a threat. We looked like we could get the second one. Then we gave them an opportunity to get back into it, obviously a fantastic strike, and then all of a sudden you make sure that you match their endeavour and their energy.

“We go in at halftime in a decent position, but it was a tough game for us. We’ve had some tough games recently but we’re in good spirits and it’s another point today can only help us in that.”

On the younger players in the squad…

“He (Paddy Lane) is a good player. That’s why he’s in and around the squad. We made him apart of our squad when we were limited to 22 players because we knew what he was capable of doing and he’s come on and affected the game.

“You want your subs to be able to do that. We switched him from the left to the right so he can come inside, and we got Conn-Clarke on as well to ask questions of Cambridge and obviously (Paddy Lane) came up with a fantastic goal.

“They’re good players. Regardless of their age, they have a real good go. They’ve been brought up in the right manner and they’re grasping opportunities to be in and around the first team so long may it continue. We’ve got a decent bunch of young kids who are knocking on the first team door.”
