In this week’s Throwback Thursday article, we are looking back at our 4-0 win over then holders Crewe Alexandra in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy back in October 2013.

Fleetwood took the lead in the cup tie just before the break as Liam Hogan played a perfect ball through to David Ball on the edge of the visitor’s box, where he flicked the ball up and struck past the Crewe goalkeeper.

Jon Parkin made it two a minute before the half-time whistle, with defender Nathan Pond managing to turn his man on the edge of the box, push the ball onto his right-foot and drill a sublime strike just inside the near post to make it three 47 minutes into the game.

Matty Blair added a fourth ahead of the final as he slid in to convert from a Stuart Murdoch cross to book Town’s place in the area quarter-finals for the first time.
