Defender Conor McLaughlin spoke to the local media after he came on for the last few minutes for what was his second debut at the club as he was welcomed with a warm reception from the Cod Army faithful.

With the clean sheet already in the Cod Army sight, McLaughlin came on just to strengthen the backline, and help he did as Fleetwood ran out 3-0 winners.

Here’s what he had to say:

On being back at Highbury…

“I’m buzzing, being back here brings back so many good memories, it was really good because the lads had already done a good job before I came on which made it a bit easier for me.

“I was grateful for the fans reaction when I came on, it was good to see so many familiar faces where it’s now down to me to help the lads on the pitch now, there’s a family feel to this club and I’m going to be grateful for this opportunity.”

On his individual targets…

“I say to all the lads in the changing room that it just feels really good to be back on the pitch again, it feels like it’s been two years since I was last playing, so it’s good to just step on now.

“As long as I do my job on the pitch you have to earn contracts and game time because as we saw today the lads were good out there and were on the front foot.”

On his fellow teammates…

“It was a great header by Callum (Johnson) today and I even called Danny (Andrew) Beckham after the game, he’s got a really good left foot and we all know what he’s capable of!

“Ged (Garner) earned his goal because of his hard work all day he’s improved massively, I knew of him the last time I was here but he’s going to be really important for us.”
