Head Coach Simon Grayson spoke to the media after his side completed their comeback at Holker Street to beat Barrow 3-1 on Tuesday evening.

Town made it two wins from two in this season’s Papa John’s Trophy after their win against The Bluebirds, thanks to a wonder goal from Jay Matete and two more from Ryan Edmondson and debutant Max McMillan.

Here’s what the gaffer had to say after the game:

On the game…

“We’re pleased as we won another game. We were disappointed with the result at the weekend, but we wanted to get back on a winning track again. Difficult conditions for both teams, it’s obviously blowing a gale up here and we found it a little bit difficult in the first half.

“We didn’t play with the intensity whether it was with the ball or without it. Second half, we had the wind, we got in their faces, got that early goal that we wanted, and from then I thought we were quite comfortable. We got in their faces and came away with the win

“Jay got forward (to level the score) and hit it, it had a little bit of wind behind it but it was great to see it hit the back of the net. It’s just what we needed in that second half, so I’m really pleased to see him score that goal.”

On the opportunity for younger players…

“A good test for us, good to get players some minutes under their belts and younger players in the team so all in all a good night. The players out there responding more positively, more aggressively out of possession and in possession. We got the goals and then that allowed us to bring the younger ones on instead of the more senior ones.

“It was a good opportunity for the younger players to get some game time but also as I mentioned people like Max Clark, Dan Batty, Callum Johnson, and Jay Matete. It’s good to get some minutes under their belts.”
