Captain Tom Clarke spoke to the media after falling to a 3-2 defeat against Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night.
Town took the lead through a Danny Andrew free-kick early on in the game, with Callum Morton converting a penalty to double the lead after the break, but a 10-minute onslaught from the visitors saw them take all three points in an eventful night at Highbury.
Here’s what Tom said after the game:
On the result and performance...
“I thought we let them dictate play a little bit more, we were a little bit deep as a team, I don’t know if them changing system affected us a little and maybe we should have done (changed system), there was gaps running forward and their power affected us.”
“They’re top of the league so obviously they’re going to punish you, so as I say, we need to look back at that and figure out why they were able to do that and that’s the frustrating part, we’re 2-0 up at home, we should have been pushing for the third but unfortunately we didn’t do that.”
On the positives...
“I thought first half we managed their threats really well and got the goal. I think we played really well first half, we came in at half-time confident and obviously got the second with the penalty.”
“In the first half I felt we showed real quality, and we’ve got some quality players. When you’re down there and things usually drop for you, they aren’t dropping us for at the minute, but we’re a group that’s together and we need to stick together and keep pushing and hopefully we can get that win.”
“Definitely confident (about turning the corner), there’s been times in games where I think we’ve dominated and we’ve probably played a lot of the teams already, so we’ve shown that we can dominate, but we need to do that for 90 minutes and not just 45. Hopefully we can do that as soon as possible.”
“We need to re-group and keep pushing and hopefully we can turn the corner and I feel very confident that we can do that, like I say, we’ve got some very talented players.”
