Grayson: Ipswich have quality in their group that could hurt you

Head Coach Simon Grayson spoke to the press on Thursday afternoon ahead of Fleetwood Town’s clash with Ipswich Town in Sky Bet League One.

Grayson – who saw his side share the points with MK Dons last time out – will be looking to get back to winning ways and finish the season strong with the best result possible as the club travel down to Portman Road on Sunday.

Here’s what Ged had to say:

On Ipswich Town…

“I think they were one of the favourites to win the division at the start of the season and it’s not turned out the way that they would have wanted it to go. They’ve got some talented players; you only have to look throughout their squad, and we’ve got to make sure that we really go about our jobs and finish the season with a win if possible.

“We beat them at Highbury a couple of months ago and it would be nice to do the double over them. If we do that, it’s certainly a feather in our cap but we have to know that Ipswich have quality in their group that could hurt you.

“The 2-0 earlier on in the season is just another stat really. It was early on in Paul [Cook]’s reign, he’s changed his team around a little bit, and it’s the last game of the season that doesn’t really have a lot riding on it. It’s a stat but we want to try and replicate that stat.”

On the upcoming transfer window…

“I’m excited about what’s going to be happening this summer. After Monday, we’ll have a better clue at where we are. Some of the loan players are out of contract and depending on what their parent clubs want to do with them.

“I feel like we’ve been in the transfer window for about two months already in terms of what we have been doing with the recruitment staff and meetings. We are moving towards areas that we want to improve on and will look to do some business this summer.

“You look at Callum Connolly for example, he’s out of contract at Everton and he has been captain for most of my time at the football club, and would you like to sign him? Of course, you would but it’s not easy because of the other options he might have. These things will take care of themselves over the next few weeks.”
