Fleetwood Town’s Academy Secretary, Abbey Smith, is due to set off on a 10-day hike up Peru’s Machu Picchu to help raise funds for the UK’s leading mental health charity, Mind.

In May 2022, Abbey and her friend Catherine and will be taking on the challenge that is: trekking up Machu Picchu, which will be a challenge that will test their limits, push them out of their comfort zones, and, most importantly, focus their minds - all to raise awareness of mental health and much-needed funds so that Mind can carry on the great and amazing work that they do.

The mental health charity, which is based in England and Wales, advise and support anyone experiencing a mental health problem, and also tirelessly campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote a better understanding of mental health to help bring an end to the stigma.

Every year, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem. But hundreds of thousands of people are still struggling. Mind believes no one should have to face a mental health problem alone. They will listen, give you support and advice, and fight your corner.

Abbey, on the trip for charity, has said: “Mind is a brilliant charity that does vital work for people suffering with their mental health and this is my way, alongside my friend Catherine, to show my support for all the work that they do.

“It will be a struggle, but the challenge will be all worth it to see money being donated to such a good cause that should help so many that need their assistance. To anyone who has donated, shared, or is even thinking about making a donation – thank you!”
