Forward Kyle Vassell spoke to the press on Wednesday afternoon ahead of Fleetwood’s clash against local rivals Blackpool.

Vassell scored in the Cod Army’s 1-0 win against Gillingham on Tuesday, converting the only goal of the game from the penalty spot after Ged Garner was fouled inside of the area.

Here’s what he had to say:

On his recent form…

“Things are good, goals and wins, obviously three on the bounce, I’m really enjoying it. I do believe in confidence, it’s more just the feeling, sometimes you just know where the goal is and you’re not doubting yourself, you’re not trying too hard. It’s important to get into that space when you just start hitting the back of the net regularly, you just keep doing it.

“It’s so important (to have a manager that believes in you), especially for strikers. Don’t get me wrong, you have to do the other side of it. If I wasn’t working hard and doing what he wanted for the team or doing what I needed to do for the team I wouldn’t be playing, so you feel like you want to score to repay the manager’s trust and faith and that’s kind of what I’ve been doing.”

“The message was ‘don’t let the season fizzle out.' We’re not getting carried away, there are other teams on winning streaks. We’re not getting ahead of ourselves, we’re just going to keep taking every game as it comes.”

On the game against Blackpool…

“It’ll be the first time I’m back there. I have fond memories there but it’s more about what we’re doing here and as you said why can’t we go four on the bounce? It’ll be a good game and I’ll enjoy it so I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s just another game, you’ve got to take the emotion out of it and just enjoy the 90 minutes that you play. In reality, I know it’s a derby but it’s just another game. We just have to apply ourselves the same way we applied ourselves on Tuesday.

“Yes, there will be a bit more to it, but you can’t think like that because then you get sucked into the occasion or the fixture. If there were fans in there I think there would be a little bit more pressure on the game but we’ve just got to make the most of the situation that there aren’t any fans and we can go there and play.”
