Fleetwood Town Head Coach Simon Grayson spoke to the press after his side drew 0-0 with local rivals Blackpool at Bloomfield Road on Saturday afternoon.

It was a close game in which both sides had chances, but neither could break the deadlock. Kyle Vassell and Ged Garner both tested Chris Maxwell in the Blackpool net, but neither could put the ball in the back of the net for Grayson’s men. At the opposite end, Alex Cairns answered every question asked as the two sides from the Fylde Coast played out a stalemate.

Here’s what he had to say:

On the match…

“Our players worked extremely hard today and put their bodies on the line if you don’t come out of a local derby with a few knocks and bruises you haven’t been competitive enough.

“If you don’t win the game the next best thing is a draw and a clean sheet, we knew it was going to be a tough game and that we had to win our tackles and be competitive which I think we definitely were.

“I don’t think we played to our ability up the pitch, I thought we were a bit sloppy and gave play away cheaply but if you’re not going to win it you have to battle hard to not lose it; both teams didn’t really create much chances but defensively against the quality they have we dealt with everything well.”

On next game’s preparations…

“We spoke to the lads after the game, and we said it was 10 points out of 12 possible in four games with three clean sheets especially three tough away games and we are pleased with another clean sheet.

“It’s been an incredibly tough recent schedule, not just for us but for most teams, but I have been really pleased with the attitude, work-rate, and application these players have offered me.

“For our next game against Ipswich Paul Cooke has gone in there and I expect him to make it a really tough game for us, but as I have said in the past few weeks people will be looking at us thinking we’re on a good run and that we have some good players so if we prepare properly we can do enough to win the game.”
