Defender Callum Connolly spoke to the press after Fleetwood Town’s 2-0 win over Ipswich Town on Tuesday evening.
Connolly scored the opening goal of the game when he got his head on the end of James Hill’s long throw into the penalty area. The club captain fought valiantly throughout as the Cod Army secured their fourth clean sheet in a row.
Here’s what he had to say:
On the game…
“I think we dominated from start to finish. We said before the game we weren’t going to let them get any rhythm. They’re obviously a good side but I think when we’re on the front foot we’re a match for any team in the league.
“James Hill’s throw is a serious weapon. We’ve been working on that in training and obviously, it’s paid off tonight. I think it’s just the desire to get on the end of the ball and he’s been great since he’s come into the team. The more clean sheets the better.
“Vas [Kyle Vassell] and Ged [Garner] have been great together. You can see every game, they’re working, could’ve had a couple of goals tonight. It’s not just the scoring goals, it’s working hard for the team. Both of them in the last three or four games have been great.”
On the recent defensive record…
“It’s great to have four consecutive clean sheets. It’s not just the back five, it’s the whole team. Everyone is committing to the cause. The gaffer has got things more structured and I’m just enjoying my football at the minute, obviously scoring goals and keeping clean sheets and it’s a good time to be a Fleetwood player.
“The two lads [Harrison Holgate and James Hill] have been great in the last few games. We’ve just looked very organised at the minute, obviously, they’re young lads who are committed to the cause throwing their heads and bodies on the line. I think a lot of teams will come and see the team sheet before the game and think ‘there are three young lads at the back there' but we’ve got four clean sheets on the spin and things are going well.”
