Forward Joe Collins spoke to the club after our Development Squad’s 2-2 draw against Premier League side, Burnley, at Lancashire FA on Wednesday.

Collins – who has been prolific for the Under 18s in recent games – played up top in Stephen Crainey’s side, alongside Cian Hayes and Chris Conn-Clarke. Collins had a chance to win the game in the second half but poked his chance just past the post.

In an interview after the game, he had this to say:

On the game…

“I thought that we played really well, we moved the ball really well and we created a lot of chances - it was just our decision making in the final third, and some of the chances we didn’t take let us down because on another day we win that game.

“As a team, we did play well as a whole and we did take two of the chances, to be disappointed with not scoring more than two against a category one side shows how hard we work as a side and what we can do going forward.

“I had a chance to put one away myself, it was set up for me difficult, but I do think I could have scored but you just have to get on with the game because those things happen, and you just have to put them behind you and move on.”

On learning from this game for the future…

“We have shown what we can do and when we’re in training all the lads are buzzing and full of confidence, we have Blackpool coming up this weekend and we want to win as it’s a derby.

“Games like that show we can do it against top teams so we can go to Blackpool and want a reaction because last time we played them we didn’t get the result that we wanted - this time we want to put it right.”
