New signing Tom Clarke sat down with the club for his first interview as a Fleetwood Town player on Monday afternoon.

The 33-year-old brings over 15 years and 350 appearances of football league knowledge to Fleetwood’s backline, has joined the Cod Army on a one-year deal after recently winning the EFL Trophy with his latest club, Salford City.

Here’s what Tom had to say in his first interview:

On the move…

“I’m really happy that it’s finalised and has all gone through. I’ve been close a few times to joining previously so I’m just happy that I’m here now so I can crack on. I was really excited to get going after speaking to the manager so can’t wait to get started.

“I worked under the manager for a long time at Preston [North End] and spoke to a few players who have been here in the past, and they mentioned how good the facilities are so a few things drew me towards Fleetwood.”

“As soon as I knew there was interest from Fleetwood, I was eagerly looking on the socials for the new signings and think that the players who have come in and helped build the squad have been great. I’m looking forward to working with the players and hopefully pass on that experience that we might need going forwards.”

On his past experiences…

“I’ve played a lot of games, and in the Championship for a long time, so I’ll pass on any knowledge that I can pass down to the younger players in the group. I’m just eager to be out on that pitch and help the team as much as I can.

“It was a great experience to go to Salford, a team eager for promotion, and even though we didn’t manage that, we won the cup [EFL Trophy] which was a great day at Wembley. I’m hoping that this will help me prepare for the league, which I know isn’t easy, and get going with the squad.

“It’s a league that I know very well, I’ve been promoted out of it twice as I was lucky enough to be in teams that have been involved in the play-offs so I’ve gained a lot of experience through that. All I want to do is pass on those experiences to the team and have a good season.”
