Midfielder Jordan Rossiter spoke to the club on Saturday after a 0-0 draw against St Johnstone, which topped off an intense training week in Scotland.
Town have been on the other side of the Northern border this week as they have been preparing for the upcoming Sky Bet League One season by having a camp at SportScotland’s Inverclyde site. The week was finished off with a goalless draw against The Saints at McDiarmid Park, which was a good workout for all the players.
Here’s what Jordan had to say in his interview:
On the game against St Johnstone…
“The gaffer spoke to me before the game and gave me the armband, which is nice but, you know whether I am captain or not, I’m going to give 100% - It was nice to have it today.
“I’ve been here a few times so I knew St Johnstone would be a tough test and they are playing against Galatasaray in the Europa League in a couple of weeks so that just shows how well we played in the first-half.
“They came out in the second half and put us under a bit of pressure, but we stuck to our game plan well. Friendlies like that are really going to help us for the upcoming season.
“For the young lads, it’s nice to see them come on to the pitch against a Scottish Premiership side and show what they can do. The confidence that they have built up over the last week can only be good for the club moving forwards.
On the training camp in Scotland…
“Pre-season is all about getting fit and getting minutes under the belt so I think we’ve had a really good training week and to top it off, most of the lads got 75-80 minutes in the tank so it’s nice to get that after a tough week.
“I feel really good, it’s always nice to have a game at the end of it, it’s like a carrot at the end of the week. Everybody has been brilliant this week, from the young pros to experienced players who know what pre-season is about.
“Everybody has come together and given 100% and I think that’s only going to stand us in good stead for the season.”
