Simon Grayson spoke to the press after Saturday’s 3-3 pre-season draw with Rochdale at the Crown Oil Arena.

Town went behind on two occasions, but a sublime free kick from Danny Andrew and a debut double from Ryan Edmondson saw the game finish all square.

Here’s what Grayson had to say:

On the game…

“I was disappointed in how we started the game, not just to concede but we didn’t get tight enough to people, we didn’t get the basics right and didn’t win enough second balls.

“We just didn’t stop them. A big part of our success last year when we got the results was stopping the opposition from playing.

“We grew into the game as well and created some decent chances. It’s still only pre-season, 3-3 is no reflection on where you are as a team. You’ve got to do whatever you can do to be fit and ready.”

On the experience pre-season provides the youth…

“It’s great for Ryan to get up and running so quickly. Any striker who comes to a new club wants to try and get their first goal quickly and he showed real quality, hence why we brought him to the football club.

"The younger ones came on and showed what that they’re about and that they are pushing the first team players. I’ve really been impressed with the since day one. It’s been a good workout in real hot conditions but that’s part of pre-season.”
