Interim head coach Simon Wiles spoke to the press on Thursday afternoon ahead of his side’s Sky Bet League One clash against Portsmouth at Highbury.

Town were last in action on Tuesday evening as they narrowly lost to Hull City in the third round of the Papa John’s Trophy and will be looking to rectify that in the league fixture at the weekend.

Here is what Simon had to say in his pre-match press conference:

On the upcoming fixture…

“We’ve got an opportunity to put things right against Portsmouth after Tuesday night. They are doing really well in the league and, three games ago, it was 0-0 at their place and a really tight affair.

“We are going into the game with confidence. We’ve played them a few times previously and we’ve given a really good account of ourselves. We know what they are going to bring so we know how we are going to apply ourselves.

“We know they are going to bring their experience to Highbury on Saturday, so we know we’ve got to be at our best complete and hopefully get over the line with three points.”

On looking forward…

“As a benchmark, they are a huge club in this division, but I look at the squad that we’ve got at our disposal and think we can pick a side that could upset Portsmouth when they turn up on Saturday.

“I think it’s all about building momentum now. If you look at the way we played on Tuesday night, there were a lot of positives from how we want to embed our way of playing with me and Macca [Steve Macauley] and we want to take those positives in the next game. If we get a result on Saturday, that will take us onto MK Dons and then Wigan on the following Saturday."
