Fleetwood Town played out a 0-0 draw against Northampton Town at Highbury Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Fleetwood created chances throughout the game and looked the most likely to break the deadlock but couldn’t seem to find a way past Jonathan Mitchell between the sticks in the Cobblers goal.

The first chance of the game fell to the hosts as Janoi Donacien worked a yard of space on the right and played a deep ball into the box where Josh Morris clashed heads with Peter Kioso, with the latter needing treatment after the come together.

The game was end-to-end for the next ten minutes before Harvey Saunders barrelled through the Northampton midfield 14 minutes in. He pressed the backline and decided to try his luck from range, but his shot was deflected wide of the target.

The Cobblers forged a chance 20 minutes in as Joseph Mills spotted an opportunity to try to catch Alex Cairns out, but his effort went well over the bar.

Town continued to press and worked multiple chances with Callum Camps. The first was an acrobatic effort, as he latched onto a Paddy Madden cross, which went over the bar. The second was a free-kick from 30-yards that had to be tipped over Jonathan Mitchell.

After the break, it took a corner for Fleetwood to work a chance as the ball dropped at the back of the box, to the feet of Callum Connolly, whose deflected strike flew just past the near post.

The visitors had a gilt-edge chance 10 minutes into the second half as Kioso lobbed a cross into a packed Fleetwood box, finding Danny Rose, but his header went wide of the target.

Simon Wiles’ side almost found a way through as Madden received the ball in the middle of the box, chested the ball down but volleyed just over the bar. Just after, Camps played a tricky pass to Saunders on the edge of the Northampton box, and after a touch to get the ball out of his feet, he struck the ball over.

With 13 minutes to go, Northampton caught Town out on the counter-attack with substitute Ryan Watson picking the ball up 25-yards out, moved the ball on to his left foot before striking just wide.
