Holgate: I’m very happy with how it’s going so far for me

Defender Harrison Holgate sat down with the press on Thursday afternoon and previewed Fleetwood Town's trip to the Kassam Stadium to face Oxford United.

Holgate - who has recently been on loan at National League side Altrincham - has been reintroduced to the side and has come off the bench in the last two games, bringing his total appearances for the season up to eleven. The 20-year-old has also recently signed a two-year extension on his current contract, keeping him at the club until 2023.

Here's what Harrison had to say in his pre-match press conference:

On his involvement this season…

“It’s been a good year for me personally. I made my league debut, and have played a few games since then, which was the goal at the start so I’m very happy with how it’s going so far for me. It’s your dream when you are growing up to make your debut and I’ve managed to get that done.

“It’s hard when you’ve not got much experience because that is what people want, so it’s about putting yourself in the right positions and taking your chance when you get it. I knew that there was a chance for me to come in and try to impress in pre-season and hopefully be around it for the start of the season and get my chance – luckily, I did.

“It’s good to know that the manager has the confidence in me to put me into games. Putting a defender on isn’t normally a substitute that you have to make but when the times have come to when I needed to come on, he’s shown the faith and put me straight in.”

On gaining experience at Altrincham…

“I went to Altrincham earlier on in the season, unfortunately, my loan was cut short a little bit because we had to isolate here but I got to play three of the games, which was my first test at the National League level – I loved my time there.

“With the National League, the standard is very good. You’ve got players who have just dropped out of the Football League playing there, as well as young kids who are up and coming, trying to make their way there, so it’s a really good standard.

“When I was there, we played Stockport County and Halifax Town and they were two good teams, so it was a really good test for me going there."
