Report: Under 18s score seven in clinical Walsall win

Fleetwood Town’s Under 18s were clinical in their 7-0 North West Youth Alliance win over Walsall at Birmingham County FA on Tuesday afternoon.

Matthew Lawlor’s side produced a perfect performance on Tuesday afternoon as Sam Bird opened the scoring, with Enock Takpe and Joe Collins grabbing braces on the day. Cian Hayes and Akiel Raffie also got on the score sheet as they extend their run of form in the league.

Town got off the mark with the first attack of the game, just three minutes in, as Cian Hayes played a through ball to Bird on the left-wing, who composed himself and calmly slotted the ball past the rushing goalkeeper.

Seven minutes later, Fleetwood doubled their lead. The move started with Hayes taking on his man before playing the ball of to Shaun Sithole on the edge of the opposition’s box, his shot was blocked and deflected to Takpe who passed it into the Walsall net.

With 23 minutes gone, Collins managed to get onto the score sheet as an over-the-top ball was played down the right-wing, which he ran onto, took on his man, and struck the ball hard and low into the far corner.

Town made it four a few minutes later as a brilliant solo run from Raffie saw him bundle his way through three challenges before striking past the goalkeeper from close-range.

Hayes fancied a goal and, with 20 minutes to go, he got on the end of a deep cross from the right, with his strike bobbling over the line. Ten minutes later, Raffie played Takpe in and the latter produced a brilliant volley to make it six for Fleetwood.

With two minutes to go, Collins completed his brace and finished off the overwhelming score line, and secured all three points for Fleetwood – carrying on their recent form.
