Defender Charlie Mulgrew spoke to the press on Monday afternoon ahead of Fleetwood Town’s Sky Bet League One fixture against Doncaster Rovers at Highbury.

Mulgrew – who signed for the Cod Army in the summer – is stressing the fact that the side have been defensively sound throughout the season so far, and the side has started to build up some confidence which should help Town going forward.

Here’s what Charlie had to say:

On Tuesday’s opposition…

“They are on a great run at the moment, but we are focusing on us. We realise that they are a good side, but we are a good team as well, and we need to turn up tomorrow night and show that.

“We are always looking to get better, and you can get better at everything but, in general, we’ve shown good defence from the front and now, we need to start scoring goals as a team again.

“It’s just another game for us, it’s going to be difficult, we are prepared for them and we need to try and get the three points. It doesn’t matter who you are playing, it’s a chance to go and get a win.”

On the recent managerial changes…

“The manager [Simon Grayson] has come in now and it’s great to see someone with so much experience, and success, in this league, I’ve only heard good thing about him as a manager so I’m looking forward to working under him.

“As a player, uncertainty is the worst thing, you just want to know who your manager is because, as the end of the day, they call the shots. They also tell you what they expect on the pitch, and off the pitch as well, so it’s good to have that consistency and to know where you stand.

“There’s been a few changes so it’s a bit different to what we are used to but it’s good. We are glad to finally get settled, know who the manager is moving forward, and we are looking forward to the games that are coming up.”

On the season so far…

“We had a chat after the MK Dons game and, if you look at the records for this season, defensively, we have been good. I need to stress, that is a team thing, not any one individual, we are defending well as a team.

“It’s fine margins as you know, and you can go on a run in this league quite easily. We were lacking a bit of confidence but now that we are settled, and had a solid performance at the weekend, we can build and start stringing a few results together. We need to start with that run now and have a good end to the season.”
