Fleetwood Town Head Coach Simon Grayson spoke to the press after his side drew 1-1 with Charlton Athletic at Highbury on Saturday.
Charlton took the lead early on as loanee Jayden Stockley got past Harrison Holgate before heading it in from five yards. Simon Grayson’s side worked their way back into the game just before half-time as Paddy Madden finished off a brilliant move, which meant the points would have to be shared.
Here’s what he had to say…
On the game…
“I’m really pleased but disappointed at the same time- really pleased with the performance, how we competed, how we played and the football we played, the number of chances we created and how we responded after going a goal down. We’re disappointed we haven’t won the game because I thought we dominated the game.
“We’re pleased with the performance yet disappointed with the result - I’m sure they’ll be delighted with the point as I do believe we played the game better. We were inches away from scoring and winning the game.
“The first half we asked the questions and were playing against the wind but when we had the wind and we couldn’t have played wide, so we played between the lines and started dropping into strikers and we played some really good stuff.”
On the players’ performances…
“If we don’t let disappointment get to us it’s a real good trait to have and shows we’re all on the right track; we’re really delighted with the defenders in Holgate and Hill, they work really hard in training and they do really well which is testament to them as individuals as a football club as well.”
“Kyle (Vassell) is new to the football club and Paddy (Madden) probably hasn’t played as a two during his time, but I’ve looked at them and decided they can be a handful in this division and really link up well.
“I think time will keep improving them because they’re still working out each other and the best partnerships you see in football are ones where they have an understanding where they know what the other is doing. They’re enjoying working with each other where they both have fantastic qualities as well as fantastic work rates and desire.”
