Head Coach Simon Grayson spoke to the press after his side drew 1-1 with Accrington Stanley at Highbury Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Town went one goal down as Adam Phillips opened up the scoring 20 minutes in but, an instant reply from Wes Burns for the Cod Army levelled things up. Despite Fleetwood’s best efforts to get back into the game and a missed penalty from Josh Morris the points were shared between the two Lancashire clubs.

Here’s what he had to say:

On the match…

“This was a game where we played well again and competed well, we passed the ball well and we created some good chances; missing the penalty to try and win the game late on you know it’s potentially not going to be your day.

“There are positives to take because when they threw things at us, we defended well, as we also posed a threat and we also looked like we could have scored more goals today where on Tuesday night we didn’t look likely to. There’s a lot of pleasing points to take against a strong Accrington side.

“Ged Garner has impressed me in training, and he’s impressed me in the 23s and he’s been working extremely hard and I enjoyed his full debut, when the ball went to him, he put himself about and competed well, it’s a nice debut for him.”

On the reaction to conceding…

“It was nice to give Wes [Burns] the opportunity to start, we eased him back in but today we saw how much of a good player he is- defensively he does his duties and I think with him you know you can play him anywhere and he’s a versatile player you need in the team.

“It’s a good characteristic to have, we don’t want to be giving goals away where we have to quickly bounce back, but if we do concede then we have to have a strong mentality to do whatever we can to get back in the game.

“We moved the ball decently at times but it’s just getting into their brains that it’s the fine margins that give us something to hang onto.”
