Under-18s coach Simon Wiles feels his side’s FA Youth Cup Third Round trip to Liverpool is the perfect tie for his talented young squad.

The game, which kicks off at 5:30pm on Saturday at The Academy, comes after wins over Mansfield Town and Tranmere Rovers, and the chance to play against one of Europe’s top academies is something which really excites the Fleetwood boss.

“It’s the dream draw for any Cat 3 games programme to be able to test ourselves against the best,” said Wiles.

“We earned our place in the Third Round with two fantastic wins and to draw Liverpool away was the perfect draw, it’s very exciting for us. There’s a real buzz around the lads and we are really looking forward to it.

“We’ve worked hard on watching Liverpool’s last few games and it’s going to be a real challenge to mould our game plan to try and beat them. We are looking to cause a big upset.”

Goals from Olly Leggett, Will Johnson, and Covy Smith earned a 3-0 win against league leaders Carlisle at Poolfoot Farm last weekend set-up Town for the big game on Saturday.

Something Wiles is delighted with. Adding: “I’m pleased with how our performances and results have really picked up in recent weeks. We’ve managed to get a number of key players back from injury and I think it’s showing in both results and performances.

“We had a really good result last weekend and that puts us in a good position going into Saturday’s game.”
