Forward Paddy Lane spoke to the club and local press after he helped his side beat Gillingham 2-1 at Highbury Stadium on Saturday afternoon in Sky Bet League One.

Lane, who has recently signed a new contract at the club, was the initial creator of both goals from Harrison Biggins and Tom Clarke today as he earned a man of the match performance as well in what proved a demanding game on the Fylde Coast but Fleetwood ground to ensure it’s back to back wins for the first time this season.

Here’s what he had to say:

On the match…

“Every single lad in there dug deep, even the boys that came on, we owe the fans these types of results because as Biggo [Harrison Biggins] said the other night you notice them singing your name and it’s every boy’s dream, personally it’s a great feeling but it’s all about putting points together.

“At my age it’s massive I’m involved in these types of games because the balls in the air a lot and you have to be physical on the ground, it’s great because I’ve come from non-league so I enjoy the battles especially when the team shows determination as well .”

On the mood in the camp…

“We all know what Crainz [Stephen Crainey] is about and what he asks of us, and if we don’t do that he will be after us, it’s a good feeling working under him and Baz [Barry Nicholson] because all the boys have bought into what they want of us.

“People can claim we’re all young players but mentally we’re strong and we all know what we’re doing, and we are deeply involved in the culture the new coach has brought in to play with freedom; it’s our first back-to-back wins and it’s what the fans deserve and it’s repaying people back at the club, we have to keep striving  and working hard, though.”

On a dream personal week…

“The man on the match was the cherry on the top of the cake for me, every game is massive in league one and we have a derby coming up this weekend, all games are the same but the rivalry adds a bit of spice, since getting the results the mood and the morale in the whole camp have just been lifted because I’m playing and getting results with my mates at the end of the day.

“I was buzzing when the club offered me a new contract, over the moon even because I know it’s what I have been working towards, but the main thing is making sure we get three points week in week out.”
