Goalkeeper Alex Cairns has just become Fleetwood Town’s highest all-time EFL appearance maker, after overtaking Ash Hunter on Saturday afternoon.

The 28-year-old was named in the starting XI for the side’s league clash against Accrington Stanley, which ended up being his 217 appearances in all competitions, with 186 of those being in the league.

You have to go back to October 2016 for his debut when Chris Neal picked up an early injury in the away clash against Chesterfield, with Cairns coming off the bench to replace him, keeping a clean sheet at the Proact Stadium.

Breaking down his stats at Fleetwood, he has made 185 starts in the league, with one bench appearance, and four games in the play-offs over the years. Cairns has made 26 starts in the various cups over the years with the first of those coming over five years ago.

Congrats Cairnsy, here’s to more!
