Fleetwood Town shared the points on Saturday afternoon as they played out a 1-1 draw with Plymouth Argyle at Home Park.

Both sides managed to find the net in the first half, with the home side breaking the deadlock through Ryan Hardie’s half-volley, which was then cancelled out by a clever finish by Callum Camps. Shayden Morris would hit the post soon after, with Jordon Garrick doing the same for the opposition in a closely fought battle.

The hosts had the first chance of the game inside the first two minutes when Ryan Hardie found space on the edge of the area. His driving run created space for the shot, but his effort was comfortable for Alex Cairns.

Argyle came close to the opening goal when Luke Jephcott met Conor Grant’s cross from inside the area. However, his volley was deflected away from the goal by the onrushing Harrison Holgate who ensured the score remained level.

It wasn’t long before Plymouth broke the deadlock when Brendan Galloway picked out Hardie with a long ball over the top of the Town defence. The forward waited for the ball to bounce before firing past the diving Cairns.

In the 35th minute, Cairns was called into action when Jordan Houghton spread play out to the left flank. He found Ryan Broom who forced the Town stopper into a smart, reaction save from close range.

Moments later, after an unbelievable spell of possession, Fleetwood found a way back into the game. Danny Andrew’s perfectly timed cross found Callum Camps in the penalty area who poked home to level the score.

The Cod Army came close to turning the game on its head. When Harrison Biggins’ cross was only half-cleared by the Argyle defence, Shayden Morris latched on the loose ball and unleashed a low, driven effort towards goal which struck the post.

Hardie almost put his side a goal to the good just before the break when he linked up with Grant once again. However, he skewed his effort high over the crossbar.

Fleetwood almost doubled their tally with the opening chance of the second half when Ged Garner’s defence-splitting pass found Callum Camps who forced Michael Cooper into a superb diving save. Andrew’s resulting corner found the head of Tom Clarke, but the goalkeeper was in the way for the second time in quick succession.

Morton had the chance to fire Fleetwood into the lead when he latched on to Andrew’s pinpoint pass in the penalty area. After taking a touch, the forward volleyed the ball towards goal, but his shot was too high.

Morris gave the hosts a scare when he beat Cooper to a loose ball. However, the Argyle defence were able to recover as Morris fell to his feet under a challenge.

The final effort of the game fell to the home side as substitute Jordon Garrick found himself in some space 30-yards away from the Fleetwood goal and decided to try his luck, with the effort striking Cairns’ crossbar and then cleared.
