Simon Grayson has hailed James Hill’s England call-up as a proud moment for everyone at Fleetwood Town.

The young defender has been named in England’s U20 squad for their game against Romania next week following impressive displays in recent months for the Cod Army.

And Grayson feels it’s something which everyone should be proud of.

"It’s massive for everyone connected with the football club, and for James and his family it’s a very proud moment", said the Town boss.

"I pulled him on Thursday to tell him and I could see he almost had a tear in his eye.

"To be called up for and England squad is something you dream about doing at whatever level, and he was absolutely made up when I passed the news onto him.

"For the football club it’s brilliant. The owner has a model where he wants to develop young players and educate them in the right way to move them forward. Ultimately there’s no bigger acoldade than when a player gets called up for their country.

"We’ve also got a number of young players who have been called up for Northern Ireland, so it’s an incredibly proud time for the club and the Academy.

"It speaks volumes of what the club are doing with the Academy and all the hard work which is going on at Poolfoot Farm.”

Hill will join up with the England squad on Thursday 2 September and will train with them until their game against Romania on Monday 6 September.
