Fleetwood Town Head Coach Simon Grayson spoke to the press after his side narrowly lost 1-0 to Peterborough United at Highbury on Saturday afternoon.
For 89 minutes it looked like the spoils were going to be shared, but a Jonson Clarke-Harris free-kick found its way through Town’s wall and into the back of the net, meaning The Posh were able to take home maximum points with a minute to go.
Here’s what he had to say:
On the match…
“We did a lot of good things today, we competed well against a really strong team who are at the top end of the division and for most of the game we kept them quiet, even when you look at our chances, we hit the bar and had a few close shaves of our own.
“We contained the likes of Sammie Szmodics and Jonson Clarke-Harris really well during the game, we’re just slightly disappointed that at the top end of the pitch we weren’t as ruthless as we can be, it wasn’t just our strikers, it was our final pass or our final shot, our decision-making means these are the fine margins that we need to change to improve.
“In the end, I am happy with how we played and our performance, but when you concede so late it is frustrating because we didn’t deserve to lose that game- a lot of the top-teams score late goals because we are at that desperation stage of the season.
On tying down first-team players…
“I was pleased with the players' attitude and application because we did everything apart from putting the ball in the back of the net, we have had three lads at the back there who like defending and put their bodies on the line, as a team though, we worked extremely hard.
“We’re delighted to have sorted the deals with them [Dan Batty and Jordan Rossiter], Jordan Rossiter has been very good at this football club since I have been here and Dan Batty has been a revelation since he has been at this football club for us.
“All of our players have different strengths so it’s nice for me to have players who can bring something different to the football club; showing players around our facilities and training ground can encourage a lot of players to this club and we’re working hard to continue to be an exciting proposition for next year.”
