Fleetwood Town Head Coach Simon Grayson spoke to the press after his side were beaten 5-2 at the Pirelli Stadium against Burton Albion on Tuesday night.

Goals from Lucas Akins, Joe Powell, Tom Hamer, and a double from Kane Hemmings were too much for Sam Finley’s goal and Jordan Rossiter’s consolation right at the death, as it was a disappointing evening in Staffordshire for the Cod Army.

Here’s what he had to say:

On the match…

“You have to give them credit, they were ruthless and scored some very good goals – I thought we started the game on the front foot, we knew they were going to be direct and that we had to match the energy because they have been on a great run.

“We hit the bar a few times and had another opportunity late on, it wasn’t what the team deserved, the result was down to their quality in front of goal, we have to manage the game better in the first half and in the second.”

On the squad’s desire to learn from the result…

“Even when you’re on top you need to make sure you are focused because if you aren’t focused then at every level teams will punish you, I have said it many times that this is a really good group, they get hurt when they lose because they all have a lot of spirit about them.

“Everyone is disappointed, no-one likes to lose football matches, my players don’t, and I certainly don’t, but it has happened, you fix your wounds, and you move on, we have to learn from this result for the upcoming weekend.”
