Goalkeeper Alex Cairns spoke to the press ahead of Fleetwood Town’s Sky Bet League One clash against Milton Keynes Dons on Saturday.

Cairns, who has kept ten clean sheets so far this season, will be looking to add to that tally when the Dons come to the Fylde Coast, with the side also looking to get back to winning ways after a defeat to Burton Albion last time out.

Here’s what Alex had to say:

On the game…

“I’ve watched a lot of MK Dons this season and they seem to want to play nice football and get a lot of shots on goal so defensively that gives us something to work on, we know we are going to have to battle and work hard to keep a clean sheet.

“After Tuesday, which was disappointing, it’s a good opportunity for us to put it right but we know they are a good team, it’s a game I’m looking forward to wanting to keep a clean sheet, there’s still all sorts for us to play for in terms of personal pride and going into next season.”

On his personal goals…

“I set myself a goal when I got back into the team, I spoke to my brother about it, and I said I wanted a minimum of ten clean sheets which I have achieved. I am pleased about it, but he said to me now let’s go and break the initial target of ten. I’ve still got two games, for me the minimum I want is two clean sheets, if not the best would be two wins. That’s what I want out of myself and out of the team.

“The whole team gains confidence from clean sheets, of course, us keepers and defenders love our clean sheets and what we do defensively to get them, but we do that as a team collectively. We have kept quite a few recently which is nice and for myself, making saves, and just having that presence on the pitch which is what I’ve been enjoying.”

On the fans…

“It just isn’t the same without the fans, it isn’t going to feel the same without the supporters at the last home of the season at Highbury.

“Going around the pitch and thanking the fans for their support throughout the season but we can do that on media platforms because we do know they spend their time and money watching us. We appreciate them and can’t wait to welcome them back again next season.”
