Midfielder Mark Duffy sat down with the club at Highbury Stadium after signing a one-year-deal on Friday afternoon.

Duffy – who joins the Cod Army after spending the last four years at Sheffield United – has signed a deal with the club, bringing vast League One experience with him after playing for Scunthorpe United, Chesterfield, Burton Albion and The Blades.

The midfielder played in the Championship for Stoke City last season, before making a January move to Dutch top-flight side ADO den Haag.

Here’s what Mark had to say in his first interview…

On the move…

“I’m delighted to get it all done. I’ve been training with the lads for the last two weeks, who are a good bunch. I know the manager pretty well and the staff, so it was a perfect fit for me. It’s all about coming in and showing that I’m fit and ready to go thankfully we sorted the deal today.

“The journey that the club have been on over the last ten years, they’ve done brilliant to get to where they are only just missed out last year in the play offs - it’s a club going in the right direction.”

On knowing the players and staff…

“I know a few of the players which always helps. I’ve had Couttsy on the phone to me trying to get me to come in, so everything was good really. I know the manager as well I just want to come in and do well really.

“Joey [Barton] just wanted me to come in and enjoy my football and show the quality that I have and what I can bring to the team. He thinks it is something different to what we already have, which is good, because everybody has different qualities in the team, so he wanted me to come in and play the way I want to play and do well.”

On playing in League One…

“As you get older, you know the leagues. You know what the demands are each week there is going to be a lot of Saturday and Tuesday games and you’ve got to be mentally and physically prepared.

“You’ve got to be able to roll your sleeves up and dig in really and I think we have got a good balance we’ve got players who can really move the ball around on the pitch well.

“I said you’ve got to dig in and roll your sleeves up and grind them results out I think they’re the main things in this division and I’ve proven I can do that at this level.”
