Fleetwood Town can confirm the appointment of Ben Ascroft as the Head of Academy Goalkeeping.

The 21-year-old – who has spent the last four years developing young talent as the Assistant Academy Goalkeeping Coach at Blackburn Rovers – joins the Cod Army with both coaching and playing experience under his belt.

Ascroft has come through the ranks himself as a goalkeeper and hopes he can help the young players coming through the Academy as he has been in the same position as them.

The new coach has already seen some of the players he has helped coach go from academy to first-team with David Raya, Andy Fisher and Jordan Eastham all moving up from his coaching in the Rovers academy.

Since arriving at the club, he has spent time with both Jack Higgins and Dave Lucas, the club’s Academy Manager and first-team Goalkeeping Coach respectively, and will be working within the first-team training sessions helping the younger players progress.

When asked about his move to Fleetwood, he said: “I’m delighted to be part of the academy at Fleetwood Town. It was an offer that I couldn’t refuse as it’s a great opportunity and I can’t wait to see what comes in the future.”
