Defender Harrison Holgate spoke to the press after Fleetwood Town battled hard in a goalless draw against Lincoln City at Highbury on Saturday.
Holgate is relishing the competition within the squad at the minute with new signings coming in, but he is more than ready to fight for that starting spot he’s had the last two games in Sky Bet League One.
Here is what Harrison had to say after the game:
On the result…
“I think the boys did well to keep a clean sheet, as that was the main thing for us in the game. That’s the first one in the league this season so if we keep doing that and the lads upfront get us goals, we will get results.
“I’ve been taking what I’ve been learning in training and putting that into games to get that spot in the team which has been the main thing for me. I just try to settle down and be confident in and around the first team lads.
“We had a chance with Baz [McKay] and were unfortunate but we also have games like Hull where we score four so if we keep that back door closed, we will win a lot of games.”
On Town’s defence…
“With Stubbsy [Sam Stubbs], we sort of bounce off of each other whereas when Charlie [Mulgrew] came on, I let him coach me through the game and let his experience take over.
“It’s good with Sam, as we have a great partnership and get on really well, but with Charlie experience, it helps me settle down a bit more as he has been in that position for countless games and you know you can rely on him.
“The competition in the squad is great. We always push each other everyday and everyone wants to earn their spot in the team.
“When I wasn’t in the team, I was working hard to get in, and I know that others will be doing the same now. It helps as you can’t be complacent, you know you have to do everything to stay in the team so it’s great for all the young lads and good experience for all.”
