Midfielder Callum Camps spoke to the press after scoring in a 2-0 win over Oxford United at Highbury Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Camps opened the scoring 60 seconds with a sweetly struck half volley into the top left corner. Paddy Madden doubled Fleetwood’s lead in the second half to wrap up the victory for his side.

Here’s what he had to say:

On his goalscoring form…

“I didn’t expect it to come so early, getting as many goals as I have but when I came in the gaffer said to me he just wants me to score some goals and that’s obviously my aim every season anyway to get six this early in the season is really good.

“I’ve got a good finish on me, so I always get in and around the box and get shots off and I’m going to get goals. It would’ve been good to get another one after the first goal to settle us down, but the lads did well, and obviously, Paddy [Madden] came on and got the goal.

“I didn’t know whether it was bending a little bit out or going over but just as I saw it go over the keeper it was obviously a goal.”

On the three back to back clean sheets…

“Jayson [Leutwiler] has been class since he’s come in and I can’t think of anything he’s done wrong since he’s been in there so it just calms us all down and helps us all out, knowing that we’ve got him in the net keeps us going.

“We always say just to keep going in the games, keep battling to the last minute because you never know obviously the goals come very late but the defence Charlie [Mulgrew] and Callum [Connolly] and obviously Tom [Edwards] and Danny [Andrew] at full-backs, they’ve just been brilliant. They’ve come and won everything and can’t fault them obviously.

“Even the rest of the team, midfield and pressing from the front, they’ve all helped out and chipped in, so it’s worked well when we’ve come together.”

On the squad…

“When you look at the bench, even when you look at the players that can’t get on the bench, it’s an unbelievable squad that has been put together now.

“Touch wood we don’t get anybody but if we do get an injury in the season then we know we’ve got people on the bench and out the squad that can come in and do the same job or even better.

“Knowing you’re in a team where every player is a good player you know you’ve got to keep performing week in week out and if everyone does that then the team’s obviously going to follow that.”
