Fleetwood Town Wrens Ladies were in action on Sunday afternoon and were defeated 5-1 by Manchester Stingers.

It wasn’t the start to a match any team would have wanted, and when the Wrens lost their number one goal keeper in the morning, it was always going to be a tough ask.

The Cod Army found themselves two goals down after four minutes, but managed to rally together to pull a goal back through Eve Kennerley, which made it an entertaining last 25 minutes.

Manchester Stingers finished the game on top after an end to end counter, scoring three late goals to make the score line more convincing than it was.

Fleetwood’s Player of the Match was Kirsten Taylor, but huge credit to all of the girls who fought hard from start to finish.

The reserve team were meant to play against North Lancs District, however it was postponed due to bad weather.

The first team are back in action next weekend when they host Manchester Stingers in the reserve fixture. This will take place at Poolfoot Farm, with kick-off at 2pm.
